Rebuilding Day 2011 got underway with four homes being repaired prior to April 30. On Rebuilding Day, April 30, more than 350 volunteers combined to repair and renovate 25 homes in the area. Homes were repaired in Roanoke City, Roanoke County, the City of Salem, Floyd County, Franklin County and Botetourt County. Once again the target area for the City of Roanoke was Hurt Park, where 10 homes were repaired. Work groups of volunteers came from businesses, churches, colleges, and civic groups. Funding was provided by generous house sponsors, grants and donations. Several contractors donated their time or worked at reduced rates. Examples of work included new roofs, energy efficient window replacement, upgraded electrical and plumbing systems, structural repairs, replacement of porches, installation of accessible ramps, retrofitting of accessible bathrooms, and a variety of repairs and upgrades. Rebuilding Together – Roanoke was able to once again meet our goal of providing warm, safe,
dry, and accessible environments to our clients.

FALL PROJECTS
RTR received three important Grants this fall. Grants were awarded from the Sears Heroes at Home Program, from Allstate Insurance and Lowes Home Improvement. RTR was able to match volunteer groups with the grants and completed the work on all three homes, October 15, 2011. Thanks you to our generous sponsors.
RTR also received a Program Patron Donation from Wells Fargo Bank. Their grant will allow us to repair several homes in the near future. Thank you for your hugh donation.
Home Sweet Home
A 12-year wish for Rebuilding Together-Roanoke is now a reality. RTR purchased a building from the City of Roanoke on 8th Street. The building was used for many years as the Division of Motor Vehicles. The building needed numerous repairs; a new roof, plumbing repairs, the parking lot cleaned, windows, new carpet, and painting. A grant from Rebuilding Together National provided most of the funding needed for renovations. Since the beginning RTR as stored files in individual Officer's homes. We have been renting storage space for tools, ladders and other supplies. For several years Board meeting space has been provided by TAP. Local churches have let RTR use their space for House Captain meeting.
We now have a home, a central location to keep our files and building supplies, a place for our meetings. To kickoff our renovation the Bonner Group from Ferrum College donated a work day to clean the parking lot and start work on the inside of the building. RTR was very pleased with their efforts.
The value of a brick and mortar office was obvious Rebuilding Day. Groups were able to attend House Captain meetings and the office was used as a distribution center where work groups could pick up materials and supplies.
Executive Director - Ed Murray, Project Manager - John Leftwich and numerous Board Members held discussions with officials in Roanoke City to make this opportunity possible. Thank you to everyone who assisted in allowing RTR to finally have an office/warehouse.

Rebuilding Together - Roanoke Applications
With Rebuilding Day in April, World Changer projects in July and numerous grants that allow us to repair homes during the year, Rebuilding Together-Roanoke (RTR) is now accepting applications all year.
Foundation for Roanoke Valley
On May 5, 2009, the Foundation for Roanoke Valley unveiled their multi-year 1.5 million dollar Belonging Initiative. The foundation grants will offer funds to several organizations to be used to assist the elderly. Rebuilding Together - Roanoke is proud to announce we will receive a $100,000 grant for a third year in 2011. These funds will allow urgently needed repairs to homes on a year around basis.

Rebuilding Together-Roanoke worked again this July with World Changers. World Changers worked on 16 Roanoke homes. Youth from across the country give up a week of their summer to travel to other areas and work on homes for the needy. World Changers work on the exterior of homes. RTR evaluated requests for repairs and provided the materials for World Changer projects.
